Sony intros colorful EA, EB notebooks, large EC
Sony on Tuesday revealed a new 14-inch VAIO EA, 15.5-inch VAIO EB and 17.3-inch VAIO EC notebook series. The EA and EB notebooks will be offered in bright colors that include what could be best described as toxic green, baby blue and hot pink as well as quieter white, brown or black. Their colors can be further customized with optional keyboard skins. The EC only comes dressed exclusively in black. Base models ship with a 2.26GHz Core i3, but there are two i5 options.
Other shared base specs include 4GB of RAM, a 320GB hard drive and Windows 7 Home Premium. Sony also loaded its own quick-boot OS that will allow users to quickly check e-mail or browse the web without loading the Windows 7 interface. Up to 8GB of RAM and 500GB hard drives can be optioned up on either series. A Blu-ray drive or burner can also be added to replace the DVD drive. HDMI outputs are built in as well.
The EA and EB series has integrated Intel graphics, with the option of a 512MB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470 graphics chipset. The EC gets this standard, with the optional GPU being the HD 5650 that has 1GB of RAM.
The EA notebooks start at $770, EBs at $700 and the EC series at $820. Either ships in July, though pre-orders can be placed now.
