GSM networks vulnerable to information leaks
Two security researchers have unearthed a way to take advantage of GSM networks to locate and find the number of any individual anywhere in the world. Don Bailey from iSec Partners and independent security researcher Nick DePetrillo made the finding, which brings up privacy and security concerns. The vulnerabilities are neither software nor hardware related, but tie into the architecture of the network itself.
The researchers can access the caller ID database mobile providers need to match names with phone numbers. Bailey and DePetrillo say there is no quick fix to patch this security flaw, and have presented their findings at the SOURCE conference in Boston on Monday. [viaThreastPost]
