Pioneer iPhone app supports in-dash GPS units

Skips own GPS functions

Electronics maker Pioneer has launched a free GPS application for the iPhone, AVIC Feeds. Unlike titles from companies such as TomTom, which provide full GPS functionality, the Pioneer software is designed strictly as a companion to the company's AVIC-U310BT and AVIC-Z110BT in-dash navigators. Users of the app can locate points of interest or other custom destinations in advance.

Once inside a car, destinations are synced with a dash unit using Bluetooth. The app includes three means of marking places: the first is through manual keyword search, which brings up selectable pins. Alternately users can take a photo of their current position, creating geotag data; by extension, the app also supports extracting geotags from existing photos. Locations are saved on a dash unit as contacts.

I think that's a really good use of the available tech to create a practical and usable solution. Answers the question, what are we gonna do with two GPS units.
