Shock- and water- resistant tablet features pen input, LTE
Samsung wasn't finished with releases at the end of its conference yesterday. Earlier today, the manufacturer announced the Galaxy Tab Active, Samsung's first tablet built specifically for business. The eight-inch ruggedized tablet with IP67 dust- and water-proofing features Samsung's C-Pen, a detachable battery, and ships with a variety of connectivity options.
The Android 4.4 "KitKat" tablet has a eight-inch WXGA (1280x800) screen. The device is driven by a 1.2GHx quad-core processor, with 1.5GB of LPDDR3 RAM and 16GB of storage, expandable with a MicroSD card up to 64GB. The rear camera is a 3.1MP device suitable for barcode reading, coupled with a 1.2MP front shooter.
Connectivity is provided by Bluetooth 4.0 BLE, WiFi 802.11n, NFC, and USB 2.0. Networks supported are various LTE, 3G, and 2G bands, dependent on carrier. Notably, the user-replaceable battery is a 4,450mAh device, and docking is accomplished with Samsung's POGO pin charging system. Price and availability are not yet known.
