NYT: iWatch has flexible display, iPhone 6 has one-handed mode

iWatch to charge wirelessly

The New York Times is corroborating other reports on the iWatch and iPhone 6, and adding some extra details. The iWatch is once again expected to come in two sizes, and offer a mix of health/fitness tracking and smartphone-like functions. Significantly, the paper adds that the watch's display is flexible and protected with sapphire, and that its circuitboard is about the same size as a postage stamp.

The device will reportedly charge wirelessly. Apple is said to have experimented with solar charging, but failed to make it work.

The Times' sources further claim that the medical sensors in the watch should be "much more" accurate than existing fitness trackers, and that the device will somehow make use of Handoff, a part of the Continuity feature that pushes tasks from an iOS device to a Mac, or vice versa. A retail debut isn't anticipated until 2015, even though the product should be shown off at Apple's September 9 event.

On the subject of the iPhone 6, sources say that it will feature a "one-handed mode" for typing and controlling apps. How this will work is unmentioned, but it should address Apple's previous attacks against rival smartphones, which claimed their bigger size was unwieldy. The iPhone 6 is forecast to come in 4.7- and 5.5-inch sizes, finally putting Apple products on par with most Android and Windows Phone offerings in terms of display size.
