Simplified Dropbox Pro pricing brings service in line with Google Drive, OneDrive

Cloud storage service Dropbox has drastically updated its paid offerings, changing not only the pricing, but also adding new features to the subscription. The new Pro account provides a large 1 terabyte allocation of cloud storage to customers, far more than the old Pro account allowed, with the Pro subscription priced at $9.99 per month.

Previously, Dropbox provided 100GB of storage for $9.99 per month, rising to $20 for 200GB and $50 for 500GB. The new pricing brings Dropbox in line with other cloud storage services, with Google Drive providing the same capacity for the same price, while Microsoft provides 200GB of OneDrive storage for $3.99, though 1TB is offered as part of a $9.99 Office 365 subscription.

New sharing controls have been added to Dropbox Pro, with the option to set passwords for shared links, to set expiry times for links, and the ability to set view-only permissions for shared folders. A new Remote Wipe function will now disassociate Dropbox with a lost or stolen device, with files stored locally on that machine's Dropbox folder being remotely deleted.

Existing subscribers of Dropbox Pro will be migrated to the new service in the coming days.
