LG Gx2 launches with mid-range specifications, laser autofocus system

updated 09:44 am EDT, Wed August 27, 2014

Rapid laser-based focusing from LG G3 reused in South Korea-bound Gx2

LG has launched its fourth smartphone for the month, following the L Bello, L Fino, and G3 Stylus. The LG Gx2 is another large-screened device that combines the styling of the LG G3 with lower specifications, though the smartphone uses the same laser autofocus system as its flagship counterpart combined with a lower-resolution 8-megapixel rear camera for quicker focusing.

On the front of the Gx2 is a 5.7-inch 720p IPS display, reports Engadget, along with a 1.3-megapixel camera, with the device measuring 9.1mm (0.35) thick and weighing 165 grams (5.8 ounces). Using a quad-core 1.2GHz processor with 1.5GB of RAM and 8GB of storage, the Gx2 runs on Android KitKat and has support for LTE and LTE-A, as well as a 3,200mAh battery.

LG did not advise how much the Gx2 will cost when it goes on sale, but it is likely to remain in Asia after its South Korean release. A release date for the Gx2 was not issued, but a Circle Case for it will be out on September 18th, suggesting the phone's release could be around the same time.
