UAE Apple Store to be 'biggest in the world,' source claims

updated 09:58 am EDT, Wed August 20, 2014

Dubai picked as location

The upcoming United Arab Emirates Apple Store will be the "biggest Apple has ever built," according to men's luxury magazine Edgar, citing an anonymous source. The person also says that Apple has picked Dubai's Mall of the Emirates as the site for the shop, and that it was originally planned to replace a current cinema complex. Based on the timing of Apple's job listings, it's thought that the store could open in the first quarter of next year. Currently, there are no Apple Stores anywhere in the Middle East.

Apple posted job listings for the UAE store just last week, hiring for every level of retail position. The listing also makes references to the Apple Store Leader Program, a 24-month initiative aimed at people that have just graduated from college or university.

It had been speculated that the shop could also be built in Abu Dhabi, since Apple CEO Tim Cook visited both the Dubai Mall and Abu Dhabi's Al Wahda Mall last February. In any case, it will be Apple's first outlet in the Middle East, bypassing even Israel. The next closest location is Istanbul, which is said to already have a second store under construction.

Uhm, the capitol of Turkey is Ankara. Istanbul is the biggest city/metropolitan area in Turkey.

As long as we're on a correcting spree, Ankara is the capital of Turkey, not the capitol. ;)
