Twitter post shows outline of rumored Asus smartwatch

Asus has started to tease the launch of its smartwatch, ahead of an event taking place at IFA on September 3rd. The image on the Asus Twitter account gives a small glimpse of the device, with the shape of one side suggesting it will be using a square display instead of a circular version, despite it having rounded corners on its face.

The manufacturer has spoken out about the design of smartwatches in the past, but it has managed to avoid revealing any real detail about the device. Earlier rumors of the device, said to be codenamed "Robin," have claimed it will run Android Wear, use an AMOLED display, and be priced somewhere between $99 and $149.

Company chairman Jonney Shih previously discussed the 'trade-offs' between a good design for a watch, and the technical requirements for adding various smartwatch functions. "Our smartwatch will have many key features, including notifications and capabilities of understanding users to help them solve many real-time problems," claimed Shih. "Eventually, however, we still expect consumers to replace their own watches (with our smartwatch, and that's why the device's form factor matters."
