LG reportedly preparing unveiling of second G Watch for IFA

Second LG smartwatch launch touted months after original released

LG may have a second Android Wear smartwatch being prepared for launch, according to a report. Months after the G Watch went on sale in the United States, the electronics manufacturer is allegedly looking to launch a follow-up of the wrist-based device at IFA next month, with the device said to have a number of upgrades compared to the existing model.

According to Korea Times, an official at the company said LG is working on a "September release for the new smartwatch," pointing to IFA as the venue for the launch. The new model will apparently use a Qualcomm processor rather than its in-house Odin chip, with the display apparently being upgraded from an IPS LCD to an OLED version, and the battery may also see some improvements. It is unclear if the watch will continue to use the square design, or if it will instead switch to a round face to match the Moto 360.

When Electronista tried out the G Watch shortly after launch, it found the device to be thicker than expected, with the display not meeting the standard set by smartphones, and the 400mAh battery was found to be lacking.
