Weekly Electronista and MacNN deals for August 15, 2014

Once again, its time for Friday Deals! Every Friday, we're going to take a look at current sales, and bring you what we think are some of the best bargains on prime apps, gadgets, and peripherals for you, the discriminating MacNN and Electronista reader. All prices are verified at the time of publication, but any sales may not be valid if you're reading a few days down the line. Check pricing before you click buy! We have a tendency to add deals over the weekend as we find them, so check back often!

As previously mentioned, long-time peripheral vendor Dr. Bott is closing its doors. A massive inventory clearance on everything from iPhone cases to KVM switches is underway. Customer support after sales might be an issue, so be mindful of this.

Chromecast not cheap enough for you? Groupon has a refurbished Google Chromecast HDMI dongle for $25 with free shipping. This is the best price we've seen on this by $4.

Plasmas are on the way out, despite having some advantages over LED and LCD televisions. Frys has the LG 60-inch 60PB6900 Plasma television for $699 with free shipping until August 21. The TV's got three HDMI inputs, component in, and a 10/100 port for smart television functions.

Storage! Newegg has the WD MyBook 4TB USB 3.0 3.5-inch external hard drive for sale for $117. Not quite the lowest we've seen (misses the mark by $1), but this is cheaper than the bare drive at most venues. Minor hoop to jump through to see the price before checkout, but it is there.

Need a battery charger refueling your Android or iOS device on-the-go? This is your weekend. Ranked from lowest to highest capacity, the Lepow Stone (6000mAh, good for up to four full iPhone charges) is a mere $16 from the manufacturer, $19 off from its usual price. The unit (not to be confused with the company's higher-power Moonstone charger) has dual USB ports (one 500mAh and one 1200mAH, a.k.a. one smartphone and one tablet USB output port). The same company has a faster-charging 12000mAh U-Stone USB charger compatible with iPhones, iPads and Galaxy smartphones for $30 at Amazon - this is $62 off its normal price, and features a 2.1A port for rapid charging.

Sandwiched in-between those two is the dual-charging RAVPower Deluxe External Battery Charger, an 8400mAh portable power bank at Amazon, now reduced in price to $30 -- 63 percent off for a limited time. It has a 2.1A port for tablets, a 1A port for smartphones, and enough juice for one iPad Air fill-up, or up to five iPhone charges, and is compatible with other brands as well.

The biggest of these specially-priced battery chargers is also available from Amazon, and boasts a whopping 13000mAh battery. The Anke Astro E4 (second generation) is on sale for $30, a $60 savings from its normal price. It can charge an iPhone 5s almost six times, a Galaxy S5 over three times or an iPad Air once.

With coupon code "SCHOOLDEAL," Lenovo has the Yoga 2 Pro Intel Core i5-4200U 13.3-inch computer for $780 with free shipping. We liked the hardware very much, and only thought it was the OS holding the hardware back. This is by far the lowest price we've seen on this computer.

While not quite hardware, select Amazon customers can get a $10 promotional credit after purchasing an gift card for $50. If eligible, customers buy the credit before August 31, and the $10 credit will be emailed before September 15. Curious if you can take advantage of the deal? Check here - we checked 11 accounts and all were eligible.

Possibly commemorating what feels like the hundredth GenCon convention, several board game translations are on sale. Dungeons and Dragons based Lords of Waterdeep is on sale for $4, cut from $7. Pocket Tactics Europe board game of the year for 2013 Agricola is also $4, also originally $7. Eponymously derived brawler Warhammer 40,000: Carnage, has been cut to $2 from $7.

As part of a re-launch sale, OS X GUI Blogger tool Blogo is $15, 50 percent off what the app will climb to in about a week. Blogo supports offline work on both WordPress blogs, and self-hosed WordPress 3.4 sites. Tumblr, Blogspot, and Squarespace support is scheduled to be added. Notably, support for the app is limited to OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion and above.

Xbox Live Games with Gold shifts tomorrow. Available on August 16 is stealth action game Dishonored for free for Xbox Live Gold subscribers. Seeing this post on the 15th? Remaining today is offroad racing game Motocross Madness.

We like reading PDFs on the iPad, and we have one overall favorite reader - GoodReader. It's now iOS 7 friendly, and on sale for back to school! GoodReader has been cut to $3 from $8 for a limited time.
