Pegatron taking half of 4.7-inch iPhone 6 production, rumors say

updated 09:33 am EDT, Thu August 14, 2014

Foxconn, Pegatron may ship 50 million units by end of 2014

Pegatron has won half of Apple's orders for production of the 4.7-inch iPhone 6, supply chain sources tell Digitimes. The remainder are expected to go to Foxconn, Apple's primary assembly partner. Together the two manufacturers are forecast to churn out 50 million iPhone 6 units by the end of the year.

Apple is generally thought to be reducing its dependence on Foxconn, which still manufactures the bulk of its products. Pegatron currently concentrates on second-tier devices like the iPad mini, iPhone 5c, and iPhone 4S. Despite this Apple already accounts 35 to 40 percent of Pegatron's business, and gaining share of a flagship device would boost revenues even further.

Foxconn will reportedly keep control of 5.5-inch iPhone orders. In unison with the 4.7-inch device, that may support separate estimates that Apple will ship between 70 and 80 million next-gen iPhones by the end of 2014.
