Sony reveals Bravia S90 65-inch, 75-inch curved Ultra HD televisions

updated 05:58 am EDT, Thu August 7, 2014

Sony Bravia S90 can display 4K content on its concave screen

Sony has unveiled new curved Ultra HD televisions in its Bravia collection , following after similar high-resolution launches by Samsung and LG. The Bravia S90 range is made up of two televisions, measuring 75 inches and 65 inches, with both having a concave display panel, the ability to play back 4K-resolution and 3D content, and a 4.2-channel speaker system.

The Triluminos display uses Sony's X-tended Dynamic Range technology for high contrast and deep black shades, while the company's 4K X-Reality PRO system upscales TV broadcasts, Blu-Ray, and other Full HD content to the Ultra HD resolution. The accompanying 4.2-channel Multi-angle Live Speaker system has separate drivers for directing left and right channels for both front and surround channels at specific angles. Using its ClearAudio+ discrete processing for preserving the original multi-channel mixes, it also includes dual low-frequency woofers built into the television, though it can optionally use an external wireless subwoofer.

Release dates and pricing for the Bravia S90 65 and 75-inch televisions has yet to be released, but details are likely to be provided during IFA next month.
