NFL Now coming to Apple TV soon, source indicates

updated 09:59 am EDT, Mon August 4, 2014

No live games to be included

NFL Now -- a video service launching later this month -- will also be getting an Apple TV app, as revealed by an image shared by a worker inside the league. While the app will offer live coverage of events like press conferences and Hall of Fame inductions, users won't be able to watch full games. Instead the app will mostly offer on-demand content, including original programming, NFL Films material, and highlights, including a "premium instant highlights service during the game window."

For some people, one of the major obstacles to cord-cutting has been access to sports content on TVs. NFL Now is unlikely to alleviate that situation, but one solution may be DirecTV's upcoming digital-only NFL Sunday Ticket plans, assuming the supporting mobile apps get AirPlay and Chromecast support, and/or the plans are directly accessible via devices like the Apple TV, Roku, and Fire TV.

Another area this app could explore would be the fantasy football content...injury reports, weekly position rankings, insight on player trends, updated game day players stats. FF has become a big part of NFL consumption and this type of content would create a great interest in this app either via Apple TV or iPad/iPhone.
