updated 01:58 pm EDT, Sun August 3, 2014

NAS features Hybrid Mode Storage, AES encryption, Android, iOS app compatibility

Peripheral maker Thecus has debuted a new network attached storage (NAS) device, first seen late last month, with the N4310. The four-bay NAS is positioned for use in small- to medium-sized businesses, as well as home offices. The device utilizes Hybrid Mode Storage, encryption, RAID support and a customization and apps through the ThecusOS.

The hybrid storage allows the N4310 to setup file-level storage for the shared data, while using block-level storage for dedicated data. The unit is powered by an AMCC 1GHz system on chip (SoC) with 1GB of DDR3 RAM. It also allows connections through USB 3.0.

Features for the NAS include 128-bit AES encryption, as well as a built-in FTP service for easy data access. The unit allows RAID configurations of 0, 1, 5, 6 and JBOD. Thecus says that the unit has a CPU Offload Hardware Engine, which allows for speed and high performance in a RAID situation. It also supports locking drive trays, and power redundancy.

With the company's Intelligent NAS utility, Thecus claims that the N4310 can be setup in a matter of five minutes. Powered by ThecusOS 6, users are given the ability to customize features in the system, as well as find additional resources in the Thecus NAS App Center.

Software for the unit includes the T-OntheGo app for Android and iOS. The app allows users to access and edit data from their smart devices from anywhere through an Internet connection. The N4310 also supports Plex Media Server for in-home content streaming, and a native BitTorrent client that downloads directly to the NAS.

Suggested retail price for the Thecus N4310 NAS is $349.
