updated 07:35 pm EDT, Wed July 30, 2014

Virgin Custom can limit data to specific services, can be changed mid-month

Sprint's prepaid cellular service Virgin Mobile is offering a new tariff which offers a high level of personalization to users. From a base plan, Virgin Custom users are able to pick and choose what parts of their plan can be adjusted throughout the month, including limiting the smartphone's data usage to accessing specific social networks or online services.

The base plan costs $7 per month, and provides 20 texts and 20 voice minutes, while options including unlimited texts, minutes, or both cost $10, $18, and $35 respectively. For an extra $5, customers can get unlimited access to one of Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, or Twitter for the month, or $15 to access all four, while another $5 add-on provides unlimited music streaming access.

When the service starts from August 9th at 1,800 Walmart stores, the service will be supported by just three budget Android smartphones: The $130 LG Unify, the $100 LG Pulse, and the $80 ZTE Emblem. From September 1st, a Custom Control app will be downloadable, allowing parents to remotely manage a child's usage.
