Black facade appears in middle of mall
Apple is building its first-ever "open-air" provisional store in Switzerland, a local report says. Macprime notes that as far back as March, it learned that the Glattzentrum Apple Store in Wallisellen, just outside of Zurich, is expanding into a neighboring space formerly occupied by Läderach. Within the past several days though, an area in front of the shop -- but separate -- has been surrounded with a black facade, and even a curtain so that people wandering Glattzentrum's upper floor can't see in.
The provisional store will reportedly open on August 31st, allowing Apple to continue sales while the expansion gets underway. Apple occasionally launches temporary outlets, but this may be the first to be situated in an open area, rather than in a dedicated, enclosed space. Even an Austin "pop-up" shop during SXSW 2011 was based in a building at 6th and Congress.
