Skype update allows linking of phonebook with Microsoft account

Microsoft has made a few changes to Skype for Android, adding the option to connect the smartphone's address book to the service. At the same time, Microsoft has revealed it is releasing a version of the messaging app client for Amazon's Fire Phone, one which will take advantage of the smartphone's home screen and graphical effects.

In the coming months, users of Skype 5.0 for Android will be asked to verify their phone number, according to the official Skype blog. After verification, the app will offer to connect the phone's address book to the Microsoft Account, allowing the contacts to be used on other Microsoft services, as well as populating the Skype contact list with more listings.

The Amazon Fire Phone's Skype app will apparently differ from the version provided for the Kindle Fire tablet range. A widget on the Fire Carousel will offer notifications for chats without requiring the app to fully open. The Dynamic Perspective function of the smartphone will apparently be visible with the customized Skype 3D icon and notification badge, and the app is said to be "pre-entitled" on the device, making it easier to find and use.
