Blondie, Pharrell Williams, Beck, Sam Smith, 5 Seconds of Summer among artists
Apple has revealed some of the lineup of its iTunes Festival 2014, which will again take over London's Roundhouse for 30 days and nights this September, and feature more than 60 bands. The month-long event, which is streamed live over a dedicated Apple TV channel, the iTunes Festival app on iOS devices and iTunes, offers free tickets won by lottery for fans in London by entering ballots on iTunes, while fans everywhere can win them through competitions run by local media partners.
The iPhone maker says that among the artists slated to perform at the event are Beck, Blondie, Calvin Harris, Chrissie Hynde, 5 Seconds of Summer, David Guetta, Kasabian, Kiesza, Jungle, Maroon 5, Kylie Minogue, Robert Plant and Sam Smith among others. This will be the eighth year of the event, which has been held at the Roundhouse with the exception of the first year and an expansion mini-festival last March at the Austin-based SXSW conference. Tickets can only be won through entry or competition, and are not available to purchase.
"The iTunes Festival in London is back with another stunning line-up of world-class performers and tremendous new acts," said Eddy Cue, Apple's senior vice president of Internet Software and Services. "These live shows capture the heart and soul of iTunes, and we love bringing them to our customers in the Roundhouse, as well as to the millions of people watching all over the world for free."
Thus far, some 430 artists have performed live in front of 430,000 fans across the eight-year history of the event, with millions more iOS, Mac, Apple TV and iTunes users watching live or on-demand online. The Twitter account, @iTunesFestival, is again active and using the #iTunesFestival hashtag, and an iTunes page featuring the latest music from the announced 2014 artists as well as live EPs from previous iTunes Festival artists' appearances are now available.
