Song identifier app integrates subscription Rdio streaming
Song-indentifying app Shazam (free) has introduced a new update that incorporates streaming music service Rdio into the app, allowing subscribers to Rdio to hear the full version of songs identified using Shazam. Previously, Shazam would have to switch over to a third-party app if users wanted to hear a full copy of a song they identified in the app, but now those with Rdio installed won't have to fire up the previously-installed Rdio app to hear the full track. Shazam also offers iTunes buying of tracks, and in iOS 8 will integrate with Siri so that users can simply ask what song is playing at any time.
Augmented reality game Ingress comes to iOS devices
After initially coming out and finding an audience on Android in 2012, the augmented-reality treasure-hunt game Ingress has finally arrived for iOS. A variation on the modern obsession with geo-caching, the game divides players into one of two teams that must fine and secure "portals" of mysterious energy. To do so, players must physically travel with their devices to locations in their local or nearby areas. There have previously been unofficial Ingress clients for jailbroken iOS devices, but Google's Niantic Labs has now released a free official client on the iOS App Store.
