updated 05:32 am EDT, Tue July 8, 2014

Xperia C3 focuses on self-portrait photography with selfie apps

Just as rumored yesterday, Sony has launched an Xperia smartphone with selfie-friendly features. The Xperia C3 will notably ship with a front-facing soft LED flash beside a 5-megapixel wide-angle front camera, with extra functionality aimed at self portraits including the Smile Shutter, double tapping the back cover to take shots, and automatic scene recognition with HDR and automatic flash in its Superior Auto mode.

Continuing the theme, the Xperia C3 includes a number of selfie camera apps, including AR effects adding extras to images and videos, a portrait retouching mode, and framing options. On the back is a higher-resolution 8-megapixel camera with an Exmor RS sensor and Sony's SteadyShot technology.

Using a 5.5-inch 720p Triluminos display with Mobile Bravia Engine 2, it has a quad-core Snapdragon processor clocked at 1.2GHz with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of expandable storage. Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, DLNA, and Xperia Link support are also included, as well as LTE connectivity and a 2,500mAh battery.

Sony is initially launching the Xperia C3 in China in a choice of black, white, and mint color options, with a global launch set to start from August.
