Sony teases smartphone launch, leak claims phone with front flash

updated 07:11 am EDT, Mon July 7, 2014

Incoming Sony Xperia smartphone claimed to have selfie-friendly front-facing flash

Sony could be preparing to launch a new selfie-friendly smartphone as soon as tomorrow, according to promotional materials and an image leak. An unnamed smartphone has surfaced in photographs, with the device apparently including a front-facing flash for better self portraits, while Sony's Xperia Twitter account is promoting a launch for tomorrow with a suspiciously-dark selfie post.

The images from Esato reveal little about the device, except for its front flash, Xperia Z2 styling, and a 2,500mAh battery. This battery capacity could be a hint that this is a mid-ranged Xperia device, though it is unclear if it will be a sealed unit or if the back cover will be removable to allow for replacement batteries.

The "See your selfies in a whole new light" Twitter post directly hints at a front flash in a smartphone, advising that the "full picture" will be revealed tomorrow, July 8th. This falls in line with details from Xperia Blog, which claims the smartphone will be globally launching, on the same day as the Xperia Z2a is expected to be unveiled in Taiwan.
