Asus smartwatch to help with 'real-time problem solving'

Hardware producer Asus will be attempting to make its smartwatch a 'hero product,' claims the company chairman. Speaking at the Taiwan Economic Summit in Taipei, Jonney Shih effectively confirmed the company is still working on a wearable device, and that Asus is still deliberating over 'trade-offs' between a good watch design and the technical requirements of including various features to the device.

"Our smartwatch will have many key features, including notifications and capabilities of understanding users to help them solve many real-time problems," said Shih according to Focus Taiwan. "Eventually, however, we still expect consumers to replace their own watches (with our smartwatch), and that's why the device's form factor matters."

While technical aspects of the device were not mentioned in at the event, a recent rumor suggested it would be a low-cost Android Wear device, expected to be priced between $99 and $149 at launch. Believed to be codenamed 'Robin,' the smartwatch is said to have an AMOLED display, and aims to be the "thinnest device in the category."
