Briefly: ScottEVest's RFID Vest, Google Play Service 5.0 released

updated 11:28 pm EDT, Thu July 3, 2014

New Radio-Frequency Identification blocking vest launched

ScottEVest, a developer of tech-enabled clothing, has launched a new series of products that aim to protect wearers from others exploiting weaknesses in cell phones, credit cards and passports. The Radio-Frequency Identification Blocking Vest features pockets lined with RFID-blocking materials, so that vulnerable objects can be carried securely. ScottEVest's travel vest is its flagship product, with a "men's" style offering 26 pockets and "women's styles" 18 pockets.

In addition to the pockets, the vest incorporates an ergonomic weight management system, hotel key card protector for preserving its magnetic information, "two-way" zippers, clear touch pockets and more. Both vest styles are priced at $135.

Google Play Service 5.0 released to almost all Android devices

Google released Google Play Service 5.0 today, alongside announcing the availability of Android wear apps earlier on. The service update does not require downloading, as it comes through the Google Play Store to nearly all devices running Android 2.3 Gingerbread to 4.4 KitKat. Apps are now allowed to sync data, exchange control messages, and transfer data between wearable and compatible phones. Also included is an adjustment to Google Wallet's functionality, adding the option to see offers or deals in users' "wallets." Analytics capabilities for e-commerce sites have also been improved.
