iFixit announces Liberation Week, offering free iPhone toolkit giveaway
Do-it-yourself repair guide company iFixit has announced that between today and July 4, it will hold a Liberation Week giveaway. Making available its iPhone Liberation toolkit for free during this time period, the tools allow users to switch out the iPhone's proprietary pentalobe screws for standard Phillips screws, making opening the device for repair far easier. iFixit has 15,000 iPhone Liberation Kits to give away this year; to acquire one, interested users can fill out a form determining which kit they require.
Pocket Drive 1.0 released, offers file transfer between iOS and OS X without network configuration
SIS Software has announced the launch of Pocket Drive, an app for iOS devices to wirelessly transfer files between itself and a computer. The process does not require network configuration, and users can organize as well as transfer files, offering iOS the ability to essentially act as a wireless hard drive that connects to OS X's Finder. Supporting storage of any file, Pocket Drive can open and view over 25 common file types within the app, including Pages, Numbers, Keynote, PDF, JPEG, TIF, MP3, MP4 and more.
Pocket Drive runs on iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch devices that run iOS 6.0 or later. Free to download through the App Store, the app is equipped with 512MB of storage. Unlocking unlimited storage is available as an in-app purchase of $5.
