Headphones available in on-ear, in-ear models endorsed by Carmelo Anthony
SMS Audio, the headphone company that features rapper 50 Cent as a majority owner, released four new pairs of headphones today. The new headphones are part of the SMS Audio Sport Collection, featuring on-ear and in-ear versions of two existing models. The Sync and Street by 50 headphones are endorsed by company investor and partner Carmelo Anthony of the New York Knicks.
SMS Audio divides the naming of the units by being wired or using Bluetooth for a connection, rather than sticking to a design for the model designation. Sync versions of the headphones connect to devices through Bluetooth, while the Street versions connect through a core.
The company says that the design of the headphones allows them to keep their position while users are active. Each of the units use professionally-tuned drivers, and a sweat-repelling nano technology to protect against moisture and weather with an IPX4 rating. All models are available in three colors.
The Sync on-ear headphones utilize controls on the ear cup for track navigation and volume levels. Ear cups utilize Ovalfit perforated leather memory foam, as well as containing a sweat proof chamber. Construction of the Syncs make them foldable for stashing away in a bag or hard case, with a 40U-reubberized coating on the exterior.
The in-ear model of the uses ear hooks for a snug fit, offering "high-fidelity audio, full bass response and vocal clarity." For controls, the Sync in-ear headphones use a made for iPhone (MFi) three-click unit with a microphone built-in. The unit also comes with a tangle-resistant cord linking the two earbuds, and an HD battery. Three sets of ear hook and sound isolating ear tips are included.
Street headphone models feature the same design as the Syncs, but utilize tangle-free cords to connect to the source device. The Street in-ear model uses a MFI three-click controller in a different location, while the on-ear version uses a one-click controller with its microphone.
"We created durable, quality headphones that hold up against any active lifestyle -- equipped with sweat-proof features that our partner, NBA All-Star Carmelo Anthony, and I felt other headphones didn't offer," said CEO 50 Cent. "We're both very pleased with the final result and can't wait to get them in consumers' hands."
Pricing for the Sync models starts at an MSRP of $150 for the in-ear version, with the on-ear model jumping up to $230. The Streets see an MSRP of $80 for the in-ear version, and a bump to $180 for the on-ear headphones. Each of the models, other than the Sync in-ear wireless version, are available now at the SMS Audio website. Consumers looking for the Sync wireless in-ear headphones will need to wait until August to purchase them.
