Apple updates iPod touch line with better 16GB model, price cuts

updated 09:12 am EDT, Thu June 26, 2014

64GB model comes down $100

Apple has done a surprise refresh of the iPod touch lineup, improving features on the 16GB model while implementing universal price cuts. The 16GB player has been given back a rear-facing iSight camera, and now has a full range of color options, as opposed to just Space Grey. Price cuts, meanwhile, have pushed the 16GB option down from $229 to $199, and its 32GB counterpart from $299 to $249. The 64GB model has received the most drastic discount, shifting from $399 to $299.

Configurations are otherwise unchanged, for example still using the A5 processor -- now only found only in a handful of Apple products, including the non-Retina iPad mini and the iPhone 4S. The company didn't do an anticipated refresh last fall, and it's uncertain what the future of the Touch may be as Apple prepares products like the rumored iWatch and two brand-new iPhone models.
