Withings Activité hides fitness tracker inside traditional wristwatch

Plain dial of Withings Activite hides activity tracking, sleep monitoring hardware

Withings has unveiled a fitness tracker embedded in a traditional-looking watch. The Withings Activité combines the typical functions of a fitness tracker, such as the Pulse, but hides the majority of its functionality behind a plain watchface, with the only clues to the device's capabilities being the logo and a secondary dial showing the percentage of progress made towards a fitness goal.

Built inside a stainless steel case with leather and plastic straps, the Activité uses sapphire glass and, despite not having a digital display, operates like a touchscreen device by using taps to switch between different modes. The waterproof watch is capable of detecting and recording when activities are performed, including the distance covered and calories burned, as well as monitoring sleep patterns.

Connecting to iOS devices over Bluetooth Low Energy, it can synchronize with the Withings Health Mate app for activity planning and coaching. Its Connected Movement timing mechanism is claimed to provide it with lasting accuracy, and unlike other fitness trackers, it runs off watch batteries and lasts for up to a year.

Withings will start shipping the Activité in the fall for $390.

Now this is an iWatch I would wear. No sacrifice in style or primary functionality.
