Company advances just one spot
Apple has placed 21st on Fortune's latest annual Best Global Green Brands list. The chart takes the 100 companies from Interbrand's annual Best Global Brands Report and narrows them down to 50, sorting them according to perceived environmental friendliness versus their actual efforts. The sway in one direction or the other is described as a positive or negative gap.
Apple's position is up one spot versus 2013, but Fortune remarks that the company still has a -1.1 gap score. "While the company is doing more to improve its environmental performance, consumers believe that Apple is greener than it actually is," the magazine writes. Apple's recent green projects have mostly involved touting its use of renewable energy at datacenters.
The top 10 companies in the list are Ford, Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Panasonic, Nokia, Sony, Adidas, Danone, and Dell. Apple sits just above L'Oréal and below Coca-Cola.
