Microsoft cuts price of Surface Pro 2 before Surface Pro 3 ships

updated 07:40 am EDT, Wed June 18, 2014

Discounts of $100, $200 on Surface Pro 2 through Microsoft Store

Microsoft has cut the price of the Surface Pro 2 tablet in the United States, before the latest incarnation of the device, the Surface Pro 3, starts shipping. Echoing a similar discounting scheme in the United Kingdom, the lower cost of previous-generation Surface Pro tablets comes at the same time as news that there could be some delays in Surface Pro 3 shipments.

The new Surface Pro 2 pricing, spotted by WPCentral, removes between $100 and $200 off the cost of the device through the Microsoft Store. The 64GB and 128GB models have reduced down by $100 each to $799 and $899 respectively, while the 256GB version has been cut from $1,299 to $1,099, and the 512GB model is being sold for $1,599 instead of $1,799.

Originally, pre-orders for only the Core i5 128GB and 256GB versions were going to ship on June 20th, though Ubergizmo reports the Core i5 128GB model will instead ship by June 30th. Shipments of the 64GB Core i3, as well as both the 256GB and 512GB variants of the Core i7 model, are not due until August.
