South Korean media claims processor, modem upgrade for LG G3 on the way

LG's latest flagship smartphone, the LG G3, could be updated next month, despite only recently launching. South Korean media claims a version of the G3 on the way will replace the Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor with a Snapdragon 805, combined with an Adreno 420 GPU and replacement modem, giving the smartphone potential download speeds of up to 225Mbps over LTE-Advanced instead of 150Mbps.

Naver reports that, aside from the connection and processor speed increases, the updated G3 will apparently have the same specifications as the normal version. If so, this would give it a 5.5-inch 2560x1440 IPS display, 16GB or 32GB of storage, 2GB or 3GB of RAM, a 3,000mAh battery, and a rear 13-megapixel camera with Optical Image Stabilizer Plus and a laser-based autofocus system.

The updated G3 could potentially be seen as an attempt to fend off long-time competitor Samsung, as the manufacturer is said to be preparing its own similar-specification "prime" version of the Galaxy S5, dubbed the Galaxy F. It is believed the Galaxy F has the same combination of Snapdragon 805 and Adreno 420 GPU with 3GB of RAM as the G3, with the 5.1-inch 1080p display of the S5 being replaced by a 5.3-inch 1440x2560 version.
