Fleksy joins early creators of third-party keyboards for iOS 8

Developer already accepting beta signups

Third-party developer Fleksy has announced plans to be one of the first companies to offer an alternative software keyboard for iOS 8. Apple revealed plans to allow third-party keyboards at its WWDC keynote on Monday. Fleksy hasn't said much about what its iOS 8 implementation will involve, but it is taking signups for a beta program, and is aiming to be ready for iOS 8's fall release.

Fleksy already has software keyboards for iOS and Android, but the iOS offering has so far been hamstrung by rules and technical limitations preventing system-wide components from being replaced. The keyboards offer functions like different color themes, gesture commands, and prediction; in the case of the latter, the software can guess what a person is trying to type based on where they've tapped the screen in the past. Fleksy claims that in time its code can guess the right word even if a person hits all the wrong letters.

I'd be interested if the features included smart title case. Typing a book title like "the guns of august" in that mode would result in "The Guns of August." It'd also be great to see that built into OS X apps.
