HTC One E8 revealed as M8 with plastic casing, 13MP rear camera

Polycarbonate HTC One E8 retains majority of HTC One M8 specifications

HTC has confirmed rumors of a cheaper version of the HTC One M8, by launching the HTC One E8. The cut-price smartphone is functionally similar to the flagship in the majority of cases, though the biggest of relatively few design changes involves the use of a polycarbonate shell instead of metal, something which reduces the weight down to 145g (5.1 ounces) from the M8's 160g (5.6 ounces).

Using a 5-inch 1080p display, the E8 has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage, expandable by microSD. Running on Android 4.4 with Sense 6.0, it also has a 2,600mAh battery, BoomSound speakers, and a front-facing 5-megapixel camera, though the rear Duo Camera has been replaced by a more standard 13-megapixel version. Other changes include the removal of the infrared blaster and the addition of an extra SIM card slot.
