Shock-resistant Galaxy S5 Active ships with side convenience key
AT&T has launched the rumored Active variant of the Samsung Galaxy S5 on its network. Taking after the Galaxy S4 Active, the Galaxy S5 Active combines the internals of the Galaxy S5 with a ruggedized body, allowing it to add the US MiL-STD 810G rating for shock, temperature, and altitude to the smartphone's existing IP67-level water and dust-proofing.

Inside the Android 4.4 smartphone is a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor clocked at 2.5GHz with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage expandable by up to 128GB via microSD. On the back is a 16-megapixel camera and a heart rate sensor, joining the 5.1-inch Super AMOLED Full HD display on the front are hardware navigation buttons, and a convenience key on the side can be used to open a selection of outdoor-related apps.
The Samsung Galaxy S5 Active is being sold by AT&T for $199 on a two-year contract, $27.50 per month on AT&T Next 18, and $35.75 per month under AT&T Next 12. AT&T is also offering a $50 saving for customers buying a Gear Fit at the same time.
