Google developers showcase example notifications for Android Wear

updated 05:43 am EDT, Thu May 29, 2014

Notifications on Android Wear smart watches could spread across multiple pages

Google developers have started to show what kind of notifications Android Wear users will expect to see on their smart watches. Example notifications from apps for Nest devices, Clash of Clans, and calendar notifications showcase the kind of experience Google expects users to see when they glimpse the Moto 360, the LG G Watch, and other Android Wear devices.

Engadget notes the Android Developers YouTube channel demonstrates how multi-page notifications will work in Android Wear, as part of a programming tutorial. The example library app shows just one notification on a smartphone, while the smart watch notification takes advantage of its restrictive, small size to spread the notification over multiple pages, with each showing a separate book and author that are due to be returned. The relatively small amount of code required to make the notifications work could encourage developers to add Android Wear notifications to their apps.

The first Android Wear devices could ship in the coming months, with the Moto 360 expected sometime this summer, possibly for as little as $250, and the LG G Watch rumored to do so in July for around $300.
