LG Display head suggests 700ppi smartphone displays on horizon

LG will demonstrate 6-inch Quad HD display at SID 2014

A smartphone display with far higher pixel densities are on the way, according to the head of LG Display. The head of the company recently revealed in an interview that panels with a density of 600 pixels per inch could be created soon, with 700ppi smartphone panels also possible, with similar screens for the phablet market also set to be showcased soon.

The executive boasted that LG was in the lead when it comes to pixel miniaturization, reports Phone Arena, though they did not suggest when these higher-resolution displays could become available to phone manufacturers for their devices.

While it recently demonstrated a 5.5-inch QHD panel for smartphones, one it uses in the recent G3 flagship smartphone launch, the company plans to show a 6-inch version with the same resolution at SID 2014 in San Francisco next month. While it will have the same 2,560x1,440 resolution as the G3's version, bringing the pixel density down slightly from 538ppi to 491ppi, the fact the company is showing off the display at an event suggests it could be preparing a high-resolution phablet in the future, or at least will be supplying the panel to other phone producers.
