Zivix ships PUC, iOS-tailored wireless MIDI adapter

updated 11:02 am EDT, Thu May 29, 2014

Device has OS X, iOS support; translates MIDI to Core MIDI for compatibility

Gadget manufacturer Zivix today revealed that its MIDI connectivity solution PUC is now shipping. The device acts as a wireless link to connect MIDI compatible musical instruments with iOS devices. The PUC simplifies connecting to instruments like a digital piano, DJ controller, or a drum machine and allows users to quickly start making music.

The device iIntegrates into studio or live applications including Logis, ProTools, Life, Cubase, Sonar, Reaper and Garageband wirelessly. The wireless MIDI interface on the PUC is designed specifically for iOS, with a companion app for connectivity and tuning on iOS. Additionally, the device has an OS X driver.

The PUC communicates directly to the iPad via WiFi directly as a device, with no "host" WiFi network required. PUC uses an open standard for Core MIDI over WiFi. Once legacy MIDI signals are translated into Core MIDI by the PUC, any Core MIDI compatible app can recognize it.

The PUC is currently available with a suggested retail price of $130 on the company's website and will be available at other major retailers shortly.
