BlackBerry CEO 'not done yet' reversing company's fortunes

Company to return to security, enterprise roots for recovery

BlackBerry Chief Executive John Chen, partially overshadowed by Apple's Beats announcement, appeared at Code and declared that while BlackBerry has "a lot of problems" it is "not dead." Responding to a question by hosts about the long-term survival of BlackBerry in a challenging environment, Chen reported that he was "quite confident that we'll be able to save the patient."

Chen believes that the company will pull out of its spiral by returning to the enterprise market, and focusing on security. Additionally, Chen said that it will attempt penetration into the nascent "Internet of Things" market, and will continue efforts in the smartphone market.

In the most recently published quarterly earnings report by the Canadian cellphone manufacturer, the company posted a net loss of $423 million, much less than was expected. Revenue also fell to $976 million, lower than an expected $1.11 billion.

The CEO did admit that the company's market position wasn't as strong as first thought before taking the position. Joking about the situation, Chen retorted that "I'm the most qualified person to do this, or the only one they found."
