updated 02:53 pm EDT, Wed May 28, 2014

Upgrade drives give boosts to speed, capacity for both lines

Today, OWC expanded its line of high-performance SSDs in capacities ranging from 120GB to 480GB for the MacBook Air 2010-2012 and the MacBook Pro with Retina display 2012-2013. With a user installable upgrade, an OWC Aura SSD expands the capabilities of the Air and Retina with up to 5.8x faster data speed, and up to 8x more storage capacity.

Drives available for the 2010 through 2012 MacBook Air lines include a 120GB model for $95, 240GB for $159, and 480GB for $299. Inclusion of an Envoy case to re-use the existing SSD is an additional $30.

The Retina MacBook Pro 2012 and early 2013 models have two options -- a 240GB and 480GB for $159 and $299 respectively. The Envoy case for this type of SSD is an additional $40.

For anyone who might be interested in these seemingly great prices, do a web search for these drives and restrict your search to the past several months and then focus on the forums at MacRumors.com. I've been a satisfied, very longterm customer at OWC...but what some customers have said are quite disturbing.
