updated 04:48 pm EDT, Mon May 26, 2014

Japan release date set as August 14 for Dynasty Warrior style game

A release date for Tecmo Koei's Hyrule Warriors has been published, according to Siliconera. The Wii U game takes characters from classic Nintendo series The Legend of Zelda and puts them in combat series that mimics the Dynasty Warriors franchise. Information regarding the story and characters were released in a magazine, on top of the August 14 release date for Japan.

Players will be able to play as Link or Impa - a character covered in the magazine - in an attempt to save Princess Zelda. Other unannounced characters will be playable in the game, each with signature weapons and combat animations, similar to what Dynasty Warriors has offered in the past.

A release date for the game has yet to be set for North America, but Hyrule Warriors is expected to debut at E3 next month.

Linden Lab adds Oculus Rift functionality to MMO Second Life

Linden Lab, the company behind the massive multiplayer game Second Life, as announced that it has added functionality for the Oculus Rift to the game. The project began with a limited beta in March, but is now a full part of the project viewer software for the game. First- and third-person views are available for players using the Rift, but enabling first person frees up the mouse for other interface actions. By using the Rift's head tracking data, players are able to be in the shoes of their avatars, looking the same place they do.

The company also put together a destination guide for users that want to see some of the best spots in the game in virtual reality.
