Microsoft Windows 8.1 with Bing confirmed, offered to OEMs

updated 03:35 pm EDT, Fri May 23, 2014

New version of Windows uses Bing as the default search engine

As previously rumored, Microsoft has released Windows 8.1 with Bing. Aimed primarily at original equipment manufacturers like Dell and other similar companies, the offering brings lower-cost Windows 8.1 to devices with the search engine defaulting to Bing. The end-user can choose a different search engine default, but the OEM is prevented from doing so.

The new version of Windows 8.1 will debut at Computex, but was confirmed today in a blog post from Microsoft. Windows 8.1 with Bing cannot be purchased seperately, but the new version will be available pre-loaded on devices from Microsoft's hardware suppliers. Some suppliers will also be providing Microsoft Office with the new version of Windows 8.1.
