HP Chromebox specifications show up on Canadian, Latin American sites

updated 01:22 pm EDT, Mon May 19, 2014

Two configurations available, hardware similar to other announced boxes

Specifications for HP's Chromebox have been dug up ahead of the release of the business-aimed, small-form computer. Available in two different configurations, the HP Chromebox will feature two different CPU options, much like Asus's Chromebox that started shipping earlier in the year.

Matching the options from Asus, the HP Chromebox will come in editions powered by either an Intel Celeron 2955U 1.4 GHz or Core i7 4600U 2.1 GHz processor. Other internal hardware includes a 16 GB SSD using the M.2 standard, RAM options ranging from 2GB to 8GB depending on the model, Realtek ALC283 audio and Intel HD graphics.

Sizing for the unit still remains small, with a footprint of 4.96 x 4.88 x 1.53 inches, with the weight at only 1.39 pounds. The small format and light weight keep placement options for the HP Chromebox open. A built-in VESA mount means it can be attached to the back of a monitor or other flat surface if there isn't enough desktop space for the small box.

Pricing for the HP Chromebox came in lower than initially thought, down from when the release announcement was made in February. Mobile Geeks was able to find online listings ahead of the release from Provantage that indicate the drop. Pricing starts at $200 for the Celeron-powered version, but goes up to $660 for the Core i7 model with expanded memory.
