Brazilian Lumia 630 includes television capability on government request

The Microsoft-owned Devices and Services arm of Nokia has launched a special edition of the Lumia 630 smartphone in Brazil, in time for the World Cup taking place in the country this year. The device will include a digital TV (DTV) receiver built-in, allowing owners to watch soccer matches on local television broadcasts from the smartphone itself. Sales of the normal version of the Lumia 630 have also commenced this week.

The Lumia 630 has a 4.5-inch FWVGA ClearBlack display, a 1.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 400 processor, 512MB of RAM, and 8GB of storage with microSD expansion. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity, a rear 5-megapixel camera, and a 1,830mAh battery are also included in the smartphone, which also happens to be one of the first to ship with Windows Phone 8.1 onboard, according to Nokia Conversations.

While it could be considered a promotional feature for the Lumia 630 in Brazil, the tuner is apparently included based on a local government request for manufacturers to include it in such devices.

The version sold in Brazil, which is the dual-SIM variant with the TV tuner, will cost 699 reals ($310) and is available now. The standard version, rolling out in Asia this week before heading to Europe and the United States, costs 119 euro ($163) for the single-SIM version, and 129 euro ($176) for the dual-SIM model.
