Apple updates Podcasts, iTunes Connect apps for iOS

updated 03:54 pm EDT, Thu May 15, 2014

Podcasts gets support for Siri, CarPlay, AirDrop

In the wake of OS X 10.9.3 and iTunes 11.2, Apple has also released updated Podcasts and iTunes Connect apps for iOS. Podcasts 2.1 mirrors the latest changes in iTunes, incorporating a new Unplayed tab -- which makes it easier to listen to new content -- and "Feed" tab for browsing episodes ready to download or stream. Favorite episodes can be saved for later listening offline, and played ones can be deleted automatically.

Unique to iOS is the integration of new Siri commands; Siri can be asked to play a specific podcast, or to start playing all episodes by saying "play podcasts." The update also includes CarPlay support, and an option to share links to shows via AirDrop. Other minor interface tweaks include the ability to start playing a station directly from the stations list, and the ability to open links in episode descriptions via Safari.

iTunes Connect -- last updated in October 2012 -- has been been redesigned to fit iOS 7, and now also gives publishers access to music, movies, and TV shows on iTunes. Previously the iOS app was only geared toward managing apps and books.

Both Podcasts and iTunes Connect are free downloads for devices running iOS 7 or later.
