Designer given 2014 Bay Area Treasure Award, joins likes of Lucas, Campbell
The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA) plans to award Apple Senior Vice President Sir Jonathan Ive with the museum's 2014 Bay Area Treasure lifetime achievement award at a dinner on October 30. Previous award winners of the Bay Area Treasure Award include Jim Campbell and George Lucas.
The award is organized by a fund-raising wing of the SFMOMA, which recognizes contributions that have redefined "contemporary visual culture" from local area artists and creative leaders. SFMOMA Curator of Architecture and Design Jennifer Dunlop Fletcher will hold a conversation with Ive during the dinner, which is chaired by Modern Art Council's Maria Tenaglia.
"Ive is our generation's most innovative and influential figure in the field of industrial design -- no other design mind has done more to transform the way we visualize and share information," says SFMOMA Director Neal Benezra. The award will be given to Ive at a dinner and presentation, at a yet-to-be-announced location. Benezra adds, "we're thrilled to celebrate Ive's revolutionary achievements."
