User claims router has poor performance, false reviews

Wireless networking equipment manufacturer Mediabridge is threatening to sue an Amazon reviewer unless he deletes his negative review of the Medialink Wireless-N Broadband Router. User "TD" posted the "most helpful" negative review of the router, and subsequently recieved a warning that the review has "harmed Mediabridge and we intend to hold you liable for all damages sustained."

Besides just panning the router's performance, the review by the user, published in 2013, claimed that the device was a rebranded Tenda router, and claimed that many of the reviews posted on Amazon were fake. If true, the allegations are a severe violation of Amazon's guidelines for sellers, which specifically prohibit false reviews on products sold, paid for, or otherwise obtained by the manufacturer.

Mediabridge's letter says that the user has unjustly "accused Mediabridge of unethical conduct and faking reviews on" Additionally, according to Mediabridge's attorneys, the user has "further made false statements, claiming that the Mediabridge router is identical to the Tenda router." The reviewer posted links in a follow-up comment at Amazon to a different review that noted the similarities, and also noted that FCC documents existed proving the same.

The company is demanding that all posts made by the user be removed at Amazon and in other locations, that he must stop further "defamatory and injurious conduct," agree to never purchase and Mediabridge or Medialink product, and also agree to never comment in any online forum about said products, though how any of this would be monitored is left unanswered.
