At least 20 new Chromebooks featuring Intel processors announced at event

In a Chrome OS press event in San Francisco, new details in the growing Chromebook lineup were revealed regarding the expansion of the market and new processing power for the budget laptops. Google and Intel have teamed up with several computer manufacturers to bring at least 20 new devices to the market. Some of these new Chromebooks will expand processing power outside of current Core i3 and Celeron processors, moving up to Intel's line of Bay Trail processors.

On top of Lenovo's offerings to the Chromebook market, several other large computing companies have thrown their support behind mainstream consumer machines -- namely Acer, Asus, Dell, HP, Lenovo, LG and Toshiba. Acer and Dell will be offering more powerful options for the Chromebook landscape, offering machines running fourth-generation Intel Core i3 processors.

The Acer C720 Chromebook should be available in the fall, with a price of $350. Dell's Chromebook 11 will be available later in the year, also at $350.

New Chromebooks featuring the 22nm Silverton-based architecture and Bay Trail-M SoC mobile processors are said to bring 11 hours of battery life and feature a fanless design. Both Acer and Asus will offer machine running these processors. Asus are expected to offer the 11.6-inch C200 and 13.3-inch C300 models in the fall. Acer will have one new Chromebook entry featuring the mobile processor. New Bay Trail Chromebooks will also come with 802.11ac Wi-Fi chips.
