Comcast hammering out deal for EA games on X1 cable set top box

updated 12:24 pm EDT, Sat May 3, 2014

Deal would see many popular EA franchises available for purchase

Cable giant Comcast is reportedly close to signing a deal that would stream game industry publisher Electronic Arts' titles to the company's X1 cable box. Under the agreement, games like soccer title FIFA, football simulator Madden, strategy game Plants vs. Zombies and classic titles like Monopoly will be playable on Comcast's new cable set-top box.

According to Reuters, testing of the program has been underway for two years. Controllers will be customers' smart phones and tablets, using a companion app. The aim of the offering is to make game purchasing as easy for the consumer as a pay-per-view movie acquisition, and build a new distribution venue for EA's games that it may not be otherwise tapping yet.

Terms of the deal such as revenue sharing, and pricing for the consumer has not yet been announced. Titles available for purchase will be announced at launch.
