T-Mobile 'very interested' in adding iPhone to MetroPCS

updated 12:15 pm EDT, Fri May 2, 2014

Prepaid brand likely to get older iPhones

T-Mobile USA is "very interested" in bringing the iPhone to its MetroPCS prepaid brand, says CMO Mike Sievert. MetroPCS was bought by T-Mobile last year, giving it an expanded reach. It has not, however benefited from T-Mobile becoming an official iPhone carrier in September 2013.

The main obstacle is believed to be pricing, since while both MetroPCS and T-Mobile offer prepaid plans, Metro is aimed at being even cheaper. The iPhone 5s starts at $649 unlocked, putting it out of reach of most of Metro's intended audience. Instead the brand will probably follow in the steps of other prepaid carriers, which have been selling older iPhone models such as the 5 and 4S.
