Acer brings Haswell, touch screens to some entry-level models

At today's Acer release announcement event in New York City, the company has added to its notebook and all-in-one computer families aimed at families and entry-level purchasers. Newly released are the Aspire U5-620 and Z3-615 all-in-one computers, as well as the Aspire V11, E11, E14, and E15 notebooks.

Both new all-in-one computers are 23-inch Full HD IPS displays. The Acer Aspire U5-620 offers a fourth-generation "Haswell" Intel Core processor with optional Nvidia GeForce GTX graphics driving a 10-point capacitive touch screen. It also offers up to a 1TB hybrid drive with up to 16GB memory, 802.11ac networking, and comes with Windows 8.1 pre-installed. The Z3-615 also offers Haswell processors and Nvidia GeForce graphics, but eschews the touch screen.

The Acer Aspire U5-620 will be available in late June with prices starting at $999. The Acer Aspire Z3-615 will be available at the same time with prices starting at $600, depending on configuration.

Up to 8GB of memory can be installed, supported by up to 1TB of hard drive space. The Aspire E11 is available in four colors, Cool Silver, Rhodonite Pink, Tiger's Eye Brown, and Quartz Blue. The Aspire V11 comes in two color options: silver and pink.

The Aspire E Series notebooks with Windows 8.1 come with Haswell series processors, up to 16GB memory, and a 1TB hard disk. Nvidia GeForce 800M series chipsets or AMD Radeon R-Series discrete graphics drive the display.

The Aspire E14 is available in six colors -- Piano Black, Pearl White, Glossy Copper, Ruby Red, Topaz Blue, and Jade Green all with a geometric pattern on the cover. The Acer Aspire E15 offers five colors -- Midnight Black, Titanium Silver, Tiger's Eye Brown, Sapphire Blue, and Garnet Red with an hairline pattern.
